Coating Optics

SolMateS OPTICS offers the ability to coat polymer optics to enhance or decrease reflective properties on a variety of polymer optics produced out of PMMA, PET, Zeonex, E48R and Polycarbonate. These coatings solutions  have a good adehesion and thermal resistance. The innovative coating solutions on polymers withstand subsequent peel tests (3M scotch tape, tested area approx. 1cm2, peel angle approx. 115º). They do not show delamination or cracking of the film after several temperature cycles including shocks of 75ºC temperature difference. Current coating solutions include wide band, narrow band anti-reflection spectra, high reflection HR, antireflection V-coat and W-coatings.

Advantages using polymer optics
Compared to standard glass optics polymer based optics have several specific advantages. Polymer optics such as lenses, beam splitters and mirrors are lighter compared to glass and can be be easily machined. The latter is an advantage if complex optical designs are needed, like for example in aspherical configurations. Polymers give optical designers a new range of opportunities. There are no additional barriers to use polymer optics instead of glass lenses since we can supply them with high quality coatings.

Anti-fog and hydrophobic coatings
Besides antireflective and relective coatings a second facility is used to deposit anti-fog and super-hydrophobic coatings. Contact angles >100° can be reached with a thin MDSH01 coating on various surfaces. With a thin MDSH02 coating the contact angles can be reduced below 10°. Currently a low-volume deposition facility can coat up to 50-200 optical components. Contact us for more details.
