SolMateS is a high-tech company, founded in 2006 by four PhD-students offering material science related services. They pioneered and developed in 2007 a new coating process called Large Area Pulsed Laser Deposition and coat since 2008 polyner optics for the military market. SolMateS-Piezo is the latest using the novel process to deposit PbZrTiOx (PZT) thin films. Customers are using the Piezoelectric thin films as their basic building bloc for several MEMS applicatoins such as: print-heads, micro-pumps, energy harvesters, tilt-table mirrors, IR-sensors, high K capacitors and ultrasound transducers. With this production solution thin films of PbZrTiOx (PZT) are currently produced and compatible with standard silicon process technology.
SolMateS: team of professionals
The core of our fast growing team consists of Arjen Janssens (MBA), Joska Broekmaat (PhD), Matthijn Dekkers (PhD) and Kristiaan Bohm (ex-ASM). Recently several employees with semiconductor or process experience have been added to speed up developments and meet customer needs.
SolMateS: innovative production technology
SolMateS reliable process technology is currently applied by the divisions Piezo and Optics. In the optical field our technology is optimized to provide customers with anti-reflective coatings on polymer optics such as lenses and mirrors. In SolMateS Piezo the novel process is used to deposit PrZrTiOx (PZT) on 4-6" silicon wafers. In our road the alpha system to process 8" wafers is expected at the end of this year.
SolMateS: spin-off from the University of Twente
SolMateS is the 35thspin-off company from the University of Twente and 
collaborates with material science experts prof. dr. ing. Dave H.A. Blank and dr. Guus Rijnders. Together they have more than 50 years of experience in the field of thin films and coatings.

SolMateS: state of the art research facilities
To analyze materials and gases we use our own facilities or make use of the research facilities within the Mesa+ Institute for Nanotechnology. This institute is considered as the largest nanotechnology institutes of western Europe. To improve our analysis capabilities we collaborate with several laboratories inside and outside the University of Twente.
