Bulk piezoelectrics are applied in many markets. SolMateS PIEZO has partners active in the medical, optical, electronics but also the printing market since with PZT many applications can be realized.

Innovating together with partners
Two of the partner of SolMateS PIEZO are Oce and C2V. The latter is a company which has expertise in structuring and handling Si for MEMS. Together we are in several programs which are also supported by for example Point-One. Oce is a large printing company in the Netherlands for which the piezo-layers are currently optimized and tested.

Boosting innovation with Point-One
Point-One is a joint initiative of the Dutch high-tech industries, knowledge institutes and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. It focuses on nanoelectronics, embedded systems and mechatronics. SolMateS is currently applying with partners for a grant together with companies such as NXP, Philips Applied Technologies, Philips Lightning, C2V and Oce.

PZT the workhorse for moving and sensing on a chip
These applications are for example piezoelectric sensors such as ultrasonic heads and microphones but also piezoelectric transducers such as vibration energy harvesters and active cantilevers. Other fields are optical switches and micropumps and microvalves for printheads.
