BetaSci is a small company which makes titanium products for medical applications. This company has all the equipment to produce titanium plates but lacks the knowledge and equipment to characterize their products.

After servicing the production machines the titanium plates have a different colour. To find out if the products are really different BetaSci asks SolMateS to analyze their products. BetaSci  so far has no idea why there is a colour change and how to fix this. SolMateS suggest to analyze two products, one before the machines are serviced and one after. Since colour changes can have many causes several techniques will be applied. To find the course SolMateS will act as follows:

-Elements analysis: this can be done by XPS, XRF and EDX
-Surface analysis: SEM and AFM analysis can show the change of surface morphology on the micro and nano-scale
-Structural analysis:- this technique can be used to see if the crystal structure has changed

From all results it turns out that the surface is more oxidized after servicing. SolMateS concludes this is a heating effect and after a small adjustment the products are again as before.
