Solmates is involved in various national and international research collaborations with institutes, (SME) development partners, and industrial end-users.
PETMEM (Piezoelectronic Transduction Memory Device) is a European partnership amongst Universities, Research Institutions, SMEs and a large semiconductor company that will focus on the development of new materials and characterization tools to enable the fabrication of an entirely new low-voltage, memory element. Device operation at voltages an order of magnitude lower than CMOS technology (power is reduced two orders) while achieving 10GHz operating speed is targeted. Within this project Solmates’ focus is on the integration of epitaxial “beyond CMOS” materials on silicon wafers.

Photonics is essential in today’s life science technology. PIX4life will mature a state of the art silicon nitride (SiN) photonics pilot line for life science applications in the visible range and pave the way to make it accessible as an enabler for product development by a broad range of industrial customers. In the project Solmates will use its PLD equipment for the integration of piezoelectric materials in the silicon photonics platform.

HAMLET is a Research and Innovation Action program, funded by the European Commission under the Horizon2020 program. The aim is to extend the capabilities of two existing photonic platforms, develop an advanced hybrid integration engine and provide a new photonic platform tailored to needs of modern Microwave Photonics applications and especially the upcoming 5G wireless technology. Solmates role is to develops piezo actuated strain optical modulators.

COMPASS & RADAR
Competitive passivating contact technology for PV (COMPASS). In order to maintain a competitive edge in Dutch solar cell knowhow and equipment manufacturing, the goal of the COMPASS project is to explore, combine, and demonstrate high-performance and manufacturability of such novel, high-potential passivating contact materials that are being developed in the Netherlands.
Transparent passivating contact design for advanced solar cells(RADAR). Development of highly transparent carrier-selective, passivating contacts, based on extrinsically doped metal oxides.
Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland has granted a subsidy under the program “iDEEGO, Zonnestroomtechnologie”.
ITO on OLEDs
Solmates has developed a unique patented process for damage-free ITO deposition on OLEDs. In this project Solmates is looking into the scaling of its PLD technology to display size and the integration aspects.
